David Brooks was recently described in the Sydney Morning Herald as ‘one of Australia’s most skilled, unusual and versatile writers’. He has also been called ‘one of the quiet masters of Australian poetry’ (the SMH called his 2007 collection The Balcony ‘an electrical performance’).

A poet, short-fiction writer, novelist and essayist, he was the foundation director of the University of Sydney’s Graduate Writing Program and has been a long-term senior co-editor of the journal Southerly.

He was the 2015/16 Australia Council Fellow in Fiction. His work has been shortlisted for numerous major awards (the Miles Franklin, the National Book Award, the Adelaide Festival Award, etc.).

His latest collections are Open House (poetry, 2015) and Napoleon’s Roads (short fiction, 2016), both from the University of Queensland Press.
